The Story Behind This Photo #
In October 2022, I had the pleasure of visiting Vancouver for the first time. Since my trip was a business trip, I had some free time for photowalks mostly at night. I used this opportunity to photograph the quite amazing architecture of the city center. This image is actually one of the first ones I captured, since my hotel was located next to the harbor area. The building with the neon sign in the center, Cardero’s, was and excellent seafood restaurant.
I actually captured this image handheld, since I was unable to travel with my full photography gear in tow. This was made possible with my trusty Nikkor 16-35mm F/4 lens, which makes it possible to get tack sharp images even with relatively long exposure times. I think what makes this image special is composition, since your gaze ends up staying within the image and is not directed out of it. Sometimes when you’re capturing an image, things just click in place naturally.
Ideal Use for This Image #
I really love how this image turned out and I’m using it as my laptop desktop background. I think it can also make an excellent print for the living room, for example as an aluminum print.
